Snacking on a salad and sandwich at Mazzio’s Sunday evening, a few of our beloved church members accused me of fabricating vocabulary words for the English language.  Undaunted by their ghastly accusations, I made my case that the word DISCOMBOBULATE is a genuine English word available for practical usage of all English speaking peoples around the world!  This wasn’t the first time I had to exert my vocabulary prowess and cat-like etymological skills in the face of fire-breathing scorn and scoffing heaped upon my head while trying to enjoy a simple ham and cheese sandwich.  Enough verbosity!  Discombobulate means “to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate.”  For example, Pastor Tommy’s friends were discombobulated by the introduction of a new word in to their personal vocabulary.
Since we are delving into the definition of discombobulation, I am reminded of how discombobulated men and women are today in trying to define what it means to really be a man.  Several weeks ago, as we began making preparations to launch Men’s Fraternity, we promoted the theme that we will be leading our men to study—The Quest for Authentic Manhood.  The theme has caused not a few people to chuckle and laugh at the assertion that “manhood” is something that men need to discover in our post-modern world.  I truly believe that when men begin the adventure of discovering authentic manhood, then they are going to be stronger men in character and conduct.  The blessings of stronger men means that marriages will be stronger.  Kids will grow up stronger.  And yes, even churches will be stronger.
Starting on Tuesday morning, September 11 at 6 a.m. I am going to lead any men in our church and community who are interested in straightening out our own crooked ideas about what it means to be a man.  We don’t claim to know everything there is about manhood, but we know the God who created men, and He will lead us on the journey!  Men’s Fraternity will meet in the fellowship hall.  The coffee will be hot and a continental breakfast will be provided.  Men’s Fraternity is open to any men who are interested in joining us at any time.  The Tuesday morning sessions will be hosted by Lewie Watters and will be videotaped and replayed on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. with a Men’s Fraternity group facilitated by turkey-slayer, Artie Hudson.
In our culture today, God is raising up a generation of men who are unapologetically committed to Jesus Christ.  These men are true warriors of the faith who are revolutionizing their homes, work places, and churches.  Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”  When the storms of godless philosophies and influences batter the minds and hearts of God’s men, they do not waver because their lives are built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.  If you are already building your house on the Rock, then Men’s Fraternity is going to be an opportunity for you to be an even better builder, and also build relationships with some men who need your expertise and encouragement in following Jesus.  If your house has sunk in the sand, then Men’s Fraternity is going to be your chance to get back on your feet, lay a strong foundation, and discover God’s plan for your future.
