Building and birthing have been on my mind over the past couple of weeks.  Mainly, because both of these things have been happening in our church family.  Building and birthing are packed with positive connotations.  Building and birthing promises good to come.  The reason I like these words is because they express the heartbeat of God in His Kingdom.  God is growing His Kingdom by building and birthing.
          Last Friday, September 7, we celebrated with our youth pastor and wife, Dru and Jamie Finley, the arrival of their second son, Caden Finley at 5:36 p.m.   He weighed 7 lbs. 11oz.  Birth is one of life’s most mysterious and marvelous experiences.  Friday afternoon, I joined Dru and Jamie, Jamie’s parents, John & Kathy Vick, and Susan & Meredith Kemp in a prayer of thanksgiving for this precious new life.  Jesus told Nicodemus, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (John 3:3 NIV).   The birth of a baby is a spiritual reminder of the need to be born again.
          While the Finley’s were experiencing birth pains last Friday, our Mexico Construction team was finishing up a building project for the Kingdom.  The team spent a week in San Miguel building a radio tower that will help communicate the gospel to over 100,000 people across the San Miguel county area in Guanajuato.   Jesus said, “I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18 NIV).  This team of eight men had many powerful experiences as they served God mixing concrete, laying brick, building walls, installing electrical lines and eating Pollo Feliz (that means “Happy Chicken!”).  They had some incredible encounters with people as God worked in relationships during the trip.  Sunday night, September 16, at 6 p.m. the team will be sharing all the GREAT THINGS God did during their mission experience.
          So remember this week that God is not quiet and powerless.  He’s building His church and birthing people into the Kingdom.  And if you are looking for an adventure, just start following Jesus and you’ll see the Spirit building and birthing all around.
