It’s All Good
According to the Urban Dictionary, “It’s All Good” has several connotations coined in our culture over the past decade. It can be used to mean ‘despite any possible doubt, everything’s cool.’
“Mom, how long is this preacher going to stand up there yelling at us? When can we go to eat pizza?” the child inquired.
“Sshhh…not long, honey. He’s almost done. You’ll get your pizza soon enough. It’s all good,” mom replied.
“It’s all good” can also be used to mean “nothing is bad.” This is used in an optimistic sense to show lightheartedness in a situation that calls for it.
“Dude, I’m really sorry that I sneezed on the back of your head, “ Thermadore apologetically said to Mr. Vhiemeister who was sitting on the pew in front of him.
Vhiemeister chuckled and looked at the Thermadore, “It’s all good; I needed the back of my bald head waxed anyway!”
“It’s all good” can be used as a meaningless platitude when you find yourself in a situation in which you really don’t have anything meaningful to say.
“Hey, Geraldine!”
“Hi, Ms. Pettyscum! How are you?”
“Oh, I’m fine, Geraldine, except for this savacious boil on the back of my neck. Here take a look!”
“That’s ok, Ms. Pettyscum, I take your word for it. It’s all good.”
I’m not sure anyone can legitimately say, “It’s all good,” and actually mean it the way a follower of Jesus would mean it. One of God’s greatest promises is Romans 8:28 (NIV), “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” When a Christian says, “It’s all good,” they are saying that every single thing going on in their life is in the sovereign hands of a good God. Our good God is working out every single circumstance of life for His glory and for our good. Fanny Crosby, blinded when she was six weeks old through the malpractice of a doctor, wrote:
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heavenly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
