Saturday morning, First Baptist will be sending her fifth San Miguel Mission team. Led by Dr. Randy Kemp and Matt Pollock, the team will serve alongside Ben and Susie Argil by providing mobile medical clinics and sharing the gospel with the people of San Miguel through gospel distribution, friendship evangelism, and a host of other ministries. Joining Dr. Kemp and Matt are Tandi Coates, Dwight & Denise Bird, Kay Deerwester, Joan Dotson, Robert Foxx, and D.J., Hope & Wyatt Peton. They will be serving in San Miguel from April 5th to April 12th.
In the state of Guanajuato, San Miguel County is comprised of over 400 communities. The population of San Miguel is approximately 300,000 people. Only 1% of them are Christian, and only 15% have received a seed of the gospel. This means that about 85% of these people have never heard the simple, plain message of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and about 99% of them are still lost. The Mexico Medical Team will be meeting physical needs as a bridge to win lost souls for the Kingdom.
I want to encourage you to pray for the Mexico Mission team at 4:11 p.m. everyday. This team of 11 is serving during the 4th month of the year, so we’ll just use that as a prayer reminder while they are gone. Set your watch or cell phone to 4:11 p.m. everyday, and when the ringer rings or the buzzer buzzes, take a moment and pray one of the following Scripture prayers for the team and for the people of San Miguel.
• Unity of Team Members
“Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love” Ephesians 4:2
• Empowered by the Holy Spirit
“It is not by force nor by strength, but by My Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6
• Lordship of Christ over the People of San Miguel
“So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every
tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil 2:10-11
• God’s Weapons for Spiritual Warfare
“We use God’s mighty weapons, not mere worldly weapons,
to knock down the Devil’s strongholds.”
2 Corinthians 10:4
John Piper writes in Let the Nations Be Glad, “I believe the proclamation of the gospel in Word and deed is the work of missions. Prayer is the power that wields the weapon of the Word, and the Word is the weapon by which the nations will be brought to faith and obedience. The frontline work of missions is the preaching of the Word of God.” The San Miguel Eleven will be touching people with the Word of God and their presence. Thousands of miles away, we can touch them with our prayers and let the mighty power of God’s Word do its saving work.
