“Longing For The Word”
1 Peter 1:23-25
“23for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For, "ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, 25BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER " And this is the word which was preached to you. (NASB)
1 Peter 2:1-3
“ 1Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” (NASB)
My purpose is to encourage you to get into God’s Word.
Why should you long for the Word of God?
1. Proclamation of God – It’s through the Word we are saved.
“ 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
2. Because of the Permanence of God’s Word.
“23for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the
living and enduring word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)
3. It’s Purity – It’s the unadulterated Word of God
“2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to
salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2)
4. It’s Power
“ 12For )the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as
the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of
the heart” (Hebrews 4:12)
How should you Long for the Word of God?
1. Reject (put off) once and for all those things that distract us (sin) from the true Word of God.
2. Nurture and grown in your salvation (sanctification) through the Word of God.
